Festus Akinbusoye on his campaign journey

Hi ! I'm Festus...

I have lived in Bedfordshire for a decade and my children all go to school in the county. I recently completed 400hrs of service as a Special Constable with Bedfordshire Police, 220hrs of which were on frontline response duties as an officer.

Some of my frontline response duties included shifts in Luton, Bedford, Ampthill, Biggleswade, Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable and much of the central and northern areas of our county.

Other volunteering roles

I currently sit on the board of directors of a  YMCA where I work with colleagues to oversee the delivery of housing and other support services to vulnerable young people. We recently and successfully delivered on a £20m housing construction project which now provides supported accommodation to nearly 200 young people.

I have also been volunteering at covid vaccination centres across Bedfordshire.

I was a board member at a Further Education College and served as link governor for the Offender Learning and Skills Services team which delivered training and education in prisons. Prior to this, I volunteered as mentor to young offenders at a secure training centre – working especially with those who had children, to gain practical parenting skills.

I am a former Parish Councillor and my proudest moment during my tenure was getting the unanimous buy-in of my colleagues for the Council to fully fund a Youth Club, staffed by a professional Youth Worker, following a rise in anti-social behaviour especially at nights in the area
