Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner – Kathryn Holloway, has issued a statement regarding the fatal shooting in Luton yesterday – 9 November 2016; police officers were called to an incident where a woman was reportedly being assaulted, during which a 24-year-old-man was shot by a firearms officer.

Commissioner Holloway said:  "My thoughts are with the family of the man involved in this tragic incident, and as the public's elected voice on policing I need to explain what is happening in relation to this.

“It is for the police watchdog - the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), to investigate the circumstances of this incident and review the police actions. Both the Chief Constable and I are committed to ensuring we fully support that investigation.

"Bedfordshire Police Force cannot comment further during the course of an IPCC investigation and no inference should be taken from this. It is, naturally, to be hoped that the IPCC can conclude this process as thoroughly and quickly as possible to establish exactly what happened given that this was the most distressing outcome for every party involved."
