Safer Streets, Safer Bedfordshire
I very much welcome the government’s new Crime and Policing Bill. This will make our streets safer and provide the police with new and stronger powers and resources needed to tackle crime.

Stop and Search is an important tool in policing that must be used proportionately and very carefully. When it is not, trust and confidence in the police can be seriously eroded.

The Bedfordshire Police Service was inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) in the autumn. This is also known as a PEEL inspection. The inspectors consider performance in nine areas of policing, and their report will be published in the next few weeks.
PCC's Column
As your Police and Crime Commissioner, it is my duty to ensure that our county is a safe place for all. Today, good policing is not just about the number of officers on neighbourhood teams.
PCC's Column
There is not a neighbourhood or village in Bedfordshire which does not experience anti-social behaviour. Frankly, this is unacceptable. No community should have to experience any form of anti-social behaviour or what some may describe as “petty crimes”.
PCC's Column
Theft from shops and businesses and assault on retail workers in Bedfordshire and beyond have become an epidemic that leaves staff afraid to go to work and customers afraid to shop. Town centres and shopping parades are suffering from the effect of serious and continuous shoplifting and associated anti-social behaviour. This is not tolerable.
PCC's Column
When I meet residents, community leaders and councillors in rural and urban areas across Bedfordshire one of the questions I am asked most often is along the lines of “when will have more community police officers.”
