Police and Crime Commissioner, John Tizard has today announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Sharn Basra.

The PCC said: “I am delighted to have appointed Sharn Basra as Chief Executive of my office.

“Sharn brings exceptional experience and drive to the role. Sharn was Bedfordshire Police Assistant Chief Constable until June last year after spending most of his policing career in Bedfordshire, where he has lived all his life.

“I know that he is well respected amongst all stakeholders and has great experience working with public sector partners in Bedfordshire and at a national level.

“I would like to publicly congratulate Sharn and I look forward to welcoming him to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Wayne Humberstone for stepping up as Acting Chief Executive.”

Sharn has held a huge number of roles at Bedfordshire Police including frontline policing, public protection, major crime investigations, and latterly was part of the strategic leadership team leading on areas such as operational performance.

Sharn Basra said “I am very excited about joining John and working with the team and partners to deliver his Police and Crime Plan.

“I am passionate about public service and after a very rewarding career in policing, but in this new and distinct role I am keen to work with all partners and local services to keep Bedfordshire safe.”

Sharn will take up the role on 21 October 2024. His appointment will be subject to a confirmation hearing at the Police and Crime Panel.
