PCC supports pay increase for officers and staff

Police and Crime Commissioner John Tizard has commented on the announcement from the National Police Chief's Council after they recommended a 3.8 per cent uplift in officer pay for the coming year.

John said: “I personally support the NPCC’s recommendation.  This shows we are recognising the financial pressures that Bedfordshire police officers and their families are facing. 

“I also support the same increase for the police staff.

“Excellence in policing requires the police service to be an exemplar employer.  Officers and staff deserve better pay for their service to the public, but also for us to recruit and retain good people.

“In the 20205/26 police budget I have assumed a 2.8 per cent increase in pay so anything more would need to be funded. There is no scope within our current budget for a bigger increase as much as it would be right if the pay award body recommends a higher increase, there would be a strong case to be made to government for additional grant.”
