Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst KPM pledges future to 2031

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), John Tizard, has extended Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst’s contract until 2031.  

Mr Rodenhurst was appointed as Chief Constable in 2023 and had already agreed to work beyond his 30-year pensionable service to 2028. However, he will now serve an additional three years.  

He started his career with Hertfordshire Police in 1994, moving to Bedfordshire as Deputy Chief Constable in 2019 which followed two years as Assistant Chief Constable for the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit which falls under Bedfordshire Police’s leadership.  

Under his leadership there has been significant improvement in performance not only in Bedfordshire but also in the joint police services (JPS) across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire and in the Regional Serious and Organised Crime Unit (ERSOU) where he also has operational leadership.  He plays an important role nationally on covert policing and serious and organised crime.  

In making his decision the PCC took soundings in Bedfordshire and from national sector leaders.   

PCC Mr Tizard said: “I am very pleased to have extended Trevor’s contract for an additional three years. I am equally pleased that he has agreed to this and will serve our county until 2031. 

“In making my decision to extend his contract I have taken soundings in Bedfordshire and from national sector leaders. 

“Under Trevor’s leadership there has been significant improvement in performance not only in Bedfordshire but also in the joint police services (JPS) across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire and in the Regional Serious and Organised Crime Unit (ERSOU) where he also has operational leadership.  He plays an important role nationally on covert policing and serious and organised crime.     

“He has and continues to provide excellent leadership of the police service. He is well respected throughout the Bedfordshire Police Service, within policing nationally, and with partners across the county.   

“Over the next five years our police service needs to build public trust and confidence, continue its improvement journey, and embrace the government’s major police reform programme. I believe that Trevor is the right Chief Constable for our county during this time. I have confidence that he will make our county safer.   

Mr Rodenhurst said: “I’ve been part of the Bedfordshire Police family since 2019 and am delighted to have the opportunity to now continue for another five years.
