Have your say: PCC launches survey to improve support for victims of crime

Victims of crime and antisocial behaviour across Bedfordshire are being encouraged to share their experiences as part of an important review aimed at ensuring victims get their full entitlements through improving the support and service they receive.

The PCC is keen to hear from as many people as possible, whether they reported the incident to the police or chose not to. Responses will help identify what is working well, where improvements are needed and how agencies can better support victims throughout their journey.

John Tizard, Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, said:

"Policing and the wider criminal justice system must ensure that victims of crime receive the service, support and outcomes that they are entitled to.

"I have commissioned a comprehensive review of services and support available to victims of crime in Bedfordshire. My objective is to improve their experience.

"We know that improvements are required across the system. However, the people who know best what is required are those who have been or are victims of crime. Therefore, I am asking you to take ten minutes to complete this survey.

"I want to know why you may not have reported a crime; how you felt you were respected if you did report a crime; your experience of interacting with officers and staff of the police and other criminal justice agencies; and your ideas on how we can make Bedfordshire a victim responsive county.

"The results will inform the final review report and provide me with the evidence to drive change and improvements."

The survey forms part of the Police and Crime Commissioner's Victims Review, a comprehensive assessment of the services and support available to victims across Bedfordshire. The findings will help shape recommendations for future improvements and ensure victims' experiences are at the heart of decision-making.

The survey takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous and confidential.

Information provided through the survey will not be shared with Bedfordshire Police or any other agency in a way that could identify respondents. Taking part will not affect any current, ongoing or closed investigations, cases or support services.

The PCC is encouraging anyone who has been affected by crime or antisocial behaviour during the past three years to take part and ensure their voice is heard.

The survey is open until 17 August.
