PCC statement on the coroner's judgement into the death of Sarah Albone

My thoughts remain with Sarah’s family and all those affected by this deeply tragic case.

This case happened four years ago and systems and processes have changed but all agencies involved must accept their responsibilities, apologise and learn the lessons.

The Domestic Homicide Review identified a number of failings across agencies, including missed opportunities to recognise vulnerability and a lack of vigilance in adopting a trauma-informed approach.

It is important to acknowledge that this is not simply a matter for the police alone.

The Police, Central Bedfordshire Council, the NHS, and others must carefully reflect upon these findings and ensure that lessons identified have been fully learned and embedded.

I shall be seeking assurances from the police and the Chief Constable that the failings identified four years ago could not arise in the same way today, and that and that every possible step has been taken to prevent such failings from occurring again.
