Service
Case worker, or Navigator, to be located in both of Bedfordshire's A&E departments, which have been identified via hospital admissions data as getting high numbers of under 25 year old victims of knife or violent crime. Navigators to offer support to young people presenting at A&E with concerns relating to to serious youth violence / exploitation, or where staff believe there is a risk/vulnerability linked to violence and/or exploitation.
From here, Navigators will meet with the young person, complete an initial risk assessment, build rapport and discuss discharge and safety planning and feed into hospital safeguarding teams with any concerns. Navigators will identify areas where support or advocacy is needed, feed back any vital information to appropriate hospital teams and continue to work with the YP as they re-enter the community.
Navigators will also have established clear referral pathways to a variety of other support services within the community, as well as ensure that the necessary safeguarding referrals are complete.
