Police and Crime Commissioner, Festus Akinbusoye attended the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art football pitch at the Flitwick Community Football Centre this week.

A grant was awarded to Central Bedfordshire Council for the pitch to serve Flitwick, Ampthill, and the surrounding area.

The Commissioner was honoured to be invited alongside the Flitwick Football Clubs, Beds FA, Councillors, the Flitwick Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Central Beds Council.

The Commissioner said “Sport is such an important thing, especially for young people, in my opinion.  For their physical wellbeing, their mental wellbeing and social welfare.  Having played professional sports myself, I can see the value in what they’re trying to do here in Flitwick as well as other areas across the county”.

Melvyn Gazeley, one of the Football Centre Directors from Flitwick Town Football Club said “What a fantastic day we had at the opening of our brand-new purpose-built pitch. This will secure football for over 800 children and adults who use the centre on a weekly basis.

“Great to see the presence of PCC Festus Akinbusoye who has visited our centre several times, we really appreciate the support”.

The Commissioner supports projects that will not only have a positive impact on the community but also support young people and keeping them safe.  This links directly to Priority three  in his Police and Crime Plan – Tackling the causes of crime and breaking the cycle of re-offending.
