Reduce Murder and Homicide

The trend shows a deterioration with five Homicides recorded in Q1, three of which were reported in June going above the upper control limit. This gives an averaging of two per month. Q1 was higher than same period last year however the force is seeing an improving picture for solved crimes, 15th nationally.

Violence and Exploitation Reduction Unit (VERU) continue to work with St. Giles to implement an A&E Navigator programme.

Reduce Serious Violence

Most Serious Violence levels have increased in Q1 with 116 crimes, averaging 39 crimes per month which was double that of Q1 in 22/23. The solved crime rate at the end of Q1  was 26.7%, this was lower than the previous quarter and this time last year.

Home Office funding under GRIP continues. Op Rowan have reviewed hotspot areas and have identified 13 areas for patrolling. Op Metal is currently a force priority focusing on Serious Violence within Luton Town Centre. Work is ongoing in partnership with Central Beds Council to identify the next Clean, Hold and Build geographic area.

Disrupt Drugs Supply and County Lines

Q1 recorded 128 Trafficking of Drugs offences, averaging 43 crimes per month. Up on the previous quarter and same time previous year.  Bedfordshire currently has 27 OCG’s, which is the same as last quarter and, 2 Priority Individuals. Along with 18 local groups (remains the same) operating 62 County Lines, and 7 street gangs (no change to previous quarter).

Reduce Neighbourhood Crime:

Q1 recorded 324 Residential Burglaries averaging 108 crimes a month. This is lower than the previous quarter and same period in the previous year. Solved crime at 11.1% is up on last quarter and same period last year.

Vehicle Crime has remained stable in Q1, compared to previous quarter and lower than same quarterly last year.

21 fewer victims of Personal Robbery in Q1, compared to Q4 22/23 and lower than same quarter last year. Averaging 36 crimes per month.

129 Theft from a Person during Q1, averaging 43 crimes per month. Down on last quarter, but slight above average.

Victim Satisfaction

Internal governance review of how Victim Satisfaction managed, within Force Performance Board and Victim & Witness Engagement Board. The force is fully engaged with the Victim Survey.

Cyber crime

The trend shows a stable picture when looking at how the force: Investigate 100% of all cyber dependant crime disseminated to forced; Provide 100% of all cyber dependant crime victims with specialist advice and Action Fraud offences.
