Lord-Lieutenant among guests at PCC and road victims charity event

The Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire will be among the guests at an event celebrating the work of a local charity which supports those affected by fatal road traffic collisions.

On Wednesday (22 March) Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Festus Akinbusoye will be joined by Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada, to pay tribute to the work of the Road Victims Trust.

The event aims to recognise the unique partnership arrangements between the charity and the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police Roads Policing Unit.

The Road Victims Trust provides emotional and practical support to people affected by road related death and life-changing injury across the three police force areas. Each year the local charity provides bespoke counselling support to more than 500 people who have experienced trauma as a result of fatal and serious road traffic collisions.

Held at Bedfordshire Police headquarters, next week’s event will welcome families who have received support from the trust alongside the roads policing officers and family liaison officers.

The event is being supported by PCC Festus Akinbusoye, a strong advocate of the Road Victims Trust.

Mr Akinbusoye said: “My plan for Bedfordshire puts people at the heart of policing and I am proud to support a local charity which supports local people.

“The Road Victims Trust has worked together with the police for many years to deliver the very best levels of post-collision support to people at their most vulnerable point. It is an honour to host this event at the force’s headquarters and celebrate the work being done in this area.”

Chief Executive of Road Victims Trust Mark Turner said: “The relationships that have been cultivated between the tri-force and road safety partnerships have been fundamental to supporting so many people.

“The effects of a fatal collision are immense, affecting people’s lives indefinitely. At Road Victims Trust, we aim to provide hope to many people at their lowest possible ebb.’
