Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Festus Akinbusoye marked the launch of his 100-day report at an official event this week where he also highlighted his Police and Crime Plan for 2021 – 2024.

Commenting on the report, the Commissioner said “A key focus of mine and the team has been getting out and about in the community, meeting partners, residents, local businesses and our young people in school settings. Critically, I also wanted to ensure that our fantastic officers and staff know they have a Police and Crime Commissioner who values them and wants to make our police service one of the best to work in.”

He further added: “Based on the energy, team spirit and partnership working I’ve experienced over the last 100 days, I am confident for the future”.

On reaching the end of his first 100 days, the PCC detailed the progress that his office has delivered against the pledges and priorities set out in his manifesto alongside the collaborative work with partners. Partners and the public attended the event at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable including Chief Constable Garry Forsyth, Local Councillors, the High Sherriff and local media.

The 100-day report sets out an understanding of Mr Akinbusoye’s progress after spending time with members of the public, partners and colleagues. This knowledge has helped to shape the Police and Crime Plan.

Councillor Jim Weir, a member of the Police and Crime Panel said “The PCC delivered his Police and Crime Plan in his usual passionate and energetic way. The plan touches all the bases that the people of Bedfordshire have fed back during his first 100 days. His relationship with the Chief Constable will I’m sure, be a very productive one as both men have similar goals for delivery.”

Mr. Akinbusoye later met with the Police and Crime Panel at Borough Hall, Bedford where his Police and Crime Plan was scrutinised during a public hearing. Panel members have statutory responsibility for scrutinising the work of the Commissioner on behalf of the public and holding him to account.

The Commissioner thanked the Police and Crime Panel for their robust and constructive engagement during the two-hour session. The Police and Crime Plan sets out key areas of focus for Bedfordshire Police area and the Chief Constable is held accountable by the PCC for delivering these.
