PCC’s School Debate Competition

Police and Crime Commissioner, Festus Akinbusoye, is keen to promote the skills of public speaking and debate in Bedfordshire students by encouraging their participation in Parliamentary style debating.

The Competition will be non-Party political. Each team will consist of two pupils from the same school, aged between 15 – 18 year olds. They will be required to expound views they do not necessarily hold, for the sake of debate. Judging is entirely impartial. Marks are awarded for debating skills and style as well as the substance of the argument.

Motions chosen for debate are designed to be topical. Your category will be chosen by the Speaker, who will also choose your perspective (whether you are for or against). This information will be sent to you 10 days prior to your debate.

Round 1 – Monday 14th March 2022 – to be held virtually via Microsoft Teams

Round 2 – Thursday 24th March 2022 – to be held virtually via Microsoft Teams

Final Round – Tuesday 29th March 2022 – Location: TBC

If your school would like to participate in this debating competition, please contact pccevents@beds.police.uk
